Coaches and gender equality: a report to the EU Commission
There is a wide acceptance of the notion that an increase in women coaches can provide inspiration and encouragement to girls and women to take part in sport and sustain their participation. It is estimated that between 20%-30% of all coaches in Europe are women ; however in most sports the underrepresentation of women becomes more pronounced at the highest levels of coaching.
That is why the European Commission recently promoted a study called “Mapping and analysis of education schemes for coaches from a gender perspective“. This report includes observations about the role of gender equality in sport, in particular referring to training and coaches. That is very interesting for us, since coaches are the main actors of our Sport MyWAY Project.
